Blake Boyd works in the pre-Renaissance technique of clay (bole) and water gilding; a process he learned over a fifteen year appreticeship. He has developed his own methods and techniques within this medium. He applies thirty five layers of clay (blole), which are sanded smooth. When water gilding, he etches into the gold leaf for the imagery. The piece is finshed with an automotive clear coat for protection. Boyd's subject matter is taken from historical refrences, pop culture, fairytales, dream-states and the occult. Disneyworld opened on his first birthday and his family members worked there during his childhood, thus Disney is a recurring theme.
Boyd has worked with, and been mentored by, members of the Warhol Factory and Kenneth Anger.
